CAPELLA CULTURISTS
Our Capella Culturists come to life when acting in their role as chief storytellers and hotel historians. They take pride in our neighbourhood’s unique history, reading everything on the history of Blakang Mati Island, Sentosa, to chronicle and preserve the resort’s stories and colonial past.
Immerse yourself into the local community to engage and discover local heritage and culture as you embark on "A Walk on the Art Side", or pick up new skills where you learn the art of Mahjong, a tile-based game from a master.
Your Capella Culturist will be pleased to curate an itinerary of experiences and activities according to your preferences, whether within the resort, or in fascinating parts of Singapore.
THE LIVING ROOM
Situated in a classic colonial bungalow built in the 1880s, Capella Singapore’s Living Room once accommodated British officers of the Royal Artillery and held extravagant officers’ balls. Retired as a place to dance, it has been sensitively restored and reborn as a retreat for guests during their stay, with delightful cakes and afternoon tea arranged each day. Find a spot and enjoy the daily cultural vignettes – often workshops or activities led by our culturists and local craftsmen. Capella Culturists hold court in the Living Room, taking you on an enthralling journey between Singapore’s colonial heritage and its multicultural society that celebrates the distinct ethnic groups.

Set within the iconic Tanah Merah building, The Pineapple Room is home to Creative Encounters, a recurring salon series celebrating creativity, craftsmanship and meaningful conversation. Bringing together leading voices across art, design, gastronomy, literature, wellness, film and culture, each intimate session invites guests to discover the stories, ideas and creative journeys behind their work through thoughtful dialogue and shared experiences inspired by Singapore's rich cultural landscape.
CAPELLA YOUTH
Nurturing independence amongst youths with minimal access to light
Inspired by the light that illuminates the night sky, Capella Singapore shines a spotlight on Southeast Asia’s underdeveloped regions.
789 million people live in extreme darkness due to severe energy poverty. They depend on primitive forms of energy like charcoal and kerosene to ignite their way through the night. These forms of energy have a devastating impact on their health and well-being, economic stability, educational outcomes and the environment. Acknowledging this, Capella Hotels and Resorts, in partnership with Solar Buddy, crossed thousands of kilometers to bring hope to communities in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam – to transform the lives of these youths through the gift of clean, sustainable solar-powered light. These lights will be able to provide the kids with a productive study environment after dusk. This long-term involvement allows us to be a continual presence in the lives of youth, providing them with a sense of stability and comfort.
